The 'Back to Buninyong' event, proudly sponsored by the Buninyong Community Bank, was a vibrant celebration that brought the Buninyong Town Hall to life on February 23. This free, community-focused evening combined heritage, music, and sustainability to highlight Buninyong’s commitment to a greener future.
Guests were treated to an inspiring talk from Costa Georgiadis on the importance of community and backyard sustainability, as well as lively tunes from The Cope Street Parade, whose Australian swing style energized the crowd. The event also featured face painting for kids, adding a festive atmosphere and fun for all ages.
Sustainability Victoria joined the event outside, engaging attendees with interactive displays on sustainable practices, while Buninyong Sustainability took the opportunity to launch their new ‘Building Rubbish’ initiative—a hands-on STEM program focused on constructing sustainable structures from waste. This unique project offers children a chance to creatively learn about sustainability and recycling.
Inside, a screening of Regenerating Australia by Damon Gameau provided a compelling look at a sustainable future, while live readings of Buninyong’s historical letters added humor and nostalgia, connecting generations. The event beautifully blended community spirit with forward-thinking sustainability, making it a night to remember and a strong step toward Buninyong’s sustainable vision.
